I'm Proud to Be Part of My Mixed Heritage

FOR MOST OF MY LIFE I’VE HAD MANY PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT MY HERITAGE IS BLACK ONLY BUT TO ALL YOU IGNORANT PEOPLE YOU BETTER THINK AGAIN. MY PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER WAS WHITE/CHEROKEE INDIAN AND IT SHOCKED THE HELL OUT OF ME KNOWING MY BLOOD HAS WHITE IN THE MIX ALONG WITH AFRO AMERICAN AND PROBABLY OTHER ETHNICS. SO SOME OF YOU KNOW MY MARRIAGE IS BY AN ITALIAN-IRISH AMERICAN FEMALE WHICH OUR CULTURES CLASH BECAUSE OF TRADITION BUT MAINLY IGNORANCE. THE DAY I TOOK A PICTURE OF HER AT 18 THE KIDS RIDICULED ME BUT I LET IT BE KNOWN I WAS PROUD TO BE WHO I WAS.
I WAS BORN WITH A MIXED HERITAGE FROM MY MOTHER WAS BORN IN THE SOUTH AND MY DAD WAS BORN IN THE NORTH SO I ‘VE HAD THE BEST AND LEAST OF BOTH WORLDS. MY BIRTHPLACE(D.C.) IS WHERE I LEARNED THE VALUES OF TRUE FAMILYHOOD AND WHAT TRUE MEANING OF BEING A CHILD WITH DIFFERENT HERITAGES. WHERE I GREW UP(NORFOLK, VA. BEACH, N.C.) WAS MY TRADITIONAL UPBRINGING ABOUT WHAT WAS ONCE TRUE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY WHICH NOW IS A BIG FAT JOKE DUE TO MY FAMILY DISOWNED ME BECAUSE OF MY MARRIAGE.
PRESIDENT OBAMA MADE THE STATEMENT ABOUT HIS WHITE GRANDMOTHER WHO WAS AGAINST THE TIMES THAT MADE HIM UNCOMFORTABLE AS A YOUTH. WE SHOULD STOP TO REALIZE WHERE DO WE COME FROM ORIGINALLY I KNOW ABOUT 6 GENERATIONS FROM MY FAMILY IN THE SOUTH AND MY PEEPS IN D.C. HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING OUR FAMILY TREE FOR NEARLY A DECADE SO WE’RE VERY MUCH INTERESTED IN WHAT THE PAST HAS TO SAY. TO THE GENERATION TODAY DON’T DISRESPECT A WHITE PERSON WHO COULD BE YOUR RELATIVE EVEN IF THEY ARE RACIST CAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHO WE COULD BE RELATED TO.
